In your rheumatology practice, how do you approach port placement for IV biologic therapy in patients with difficult venous access?

• I rarely or never recommend ports, I generally favor peripheral IV access whenever possible
• I recommend ports only in select patients with persistent, significant difficulty obtaining IV access
• I recommend ports relatively frequently when long-term IV biologic therapy is anticipated and venous access is challenging.
• My decision is highly individualized and depends on patient specific factors (ex. comorbidities, infection risk, treatment duration, patient preference)
