In patients with SLE do you have concerns about using trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) because of a potential risk of lupus flare?

When prescribing TMP/SMX to a patient with SLE, how concerned are you about triggering a lupus flare?

• Very concerned - I generally avoid TMP/SMX when alternatives are available
• Somewhat concerned - I use it selectively and monitor closely
• Not very concerned - I use TMP/SMX when clinically indicated
