Do you utilize D-dimer to inform anticoagulation duration in the treatment of VTE?

Provoked or unprovoked VTE: Do you use D-Dimer (or even repeat imaging to reassess residual clot) in any capacity to guide anticoagulation duration? Either initially or for extended treatment durations?

While not recommended in guidelines, do you think these tests have any role when the provider or patient is on the fence regarding duration of re-addition of anticoagulation.
