It depends on the severity and frequency of the case but typically:

  1. strict photoprotection with sunscreen, UPF clothing, etc.,
  2. topical steroids bid starting the day before planned sun exposure and continuing for a week or two,

Heliocare prophylactically. I’ve found it to be quite helpful for patients who don’t want to be on plaquenil.

I agree with the above but will add that hardening with nbUVB leading in to spring and/or vacations in sunny climates can be extremely helpful.
