Can cardioversion be safely performed for recurrent atrial fibrillation in patients who have undergone left atrial appendage clipping during CABG, if they are not on chronic anticoagulation anymore?

How do you manage anticoagulation in patients who have undergone left atrial appendage clipping/MAZE ligation during CABG?

• I continue anticoagulation long term, provided acceptable bleeding risk
• If the patient is at high bleeding risk, I would not consider starting anticoagulation
• If the patient were to establish care with me for the first time and they were not on anticoagulation, I would start them on it if they had an acceptable bleeding risk
