Is there ever a role for the use of CMV immune globulin for treatment of CMV viremia and/or disease?

When would you consider using CMV immune globulin (CMVIG) for the treatment of CMV viremia and/or disease?

• Only in special circumstances when patients are intolerant to 1st or 2nd line therapy
• For patients with resistant or refractory CMV disease
• In combination with other antivirals for patients at significant risk for morbidity (e.g., lung transplant patients CMV D+/R- with CMV pneumonitis)
• I do not use CMVIG for CMV viremia and/or disease
