What is the role of palliative radiation for bone/soft tissue metastases obliterating a joint space?

For example, a patient with a large (10 x 10cm) metastasis encompassing and replacing the iliac/acetabulum. While irradiating this may yield a pain response, is the risk of extremity dislocation an overriding factor?
