What outcome do you value as the most important measure of success when treating CHE?
How do you weigh the importance of outcomes like patient-reported symptom control, steroid-sparing effect, disease activity scores such as HECSI, patient-reported quality of life, or rate of onset?
Answer from: at Academic Institution
Reduction in pain (fissures) and itch on a 10-point scale.
Improvement in the ability to work.
Decrease in rereported bleeding (from fissures or from atrophic due to prior steroid use).
I do not use HECSI in the clinical setting.
Sustained symptom control that restores hand function is the priority. Pain, fissuring, and itch are what drive disability and quality of life impact, so meaningful improvement in these symptoms and return to daily activities define true success.
