Although the literature says that measuring spleen stiffness can help to stratify degree of portal hypertension, I am not a believer of measuring spleen or liver stiffness for that matter, as it is so operator dependent. I agree with Dr. @Dr. First Last regarding measuring spleen stiffness in the Fontan population, we still need validating data. Some of these patients are asplenic.

I use spleen stiffness to select patients for EGD screening for varices, but is by no means perfect, meaning some had no varices at all.
