Do you recommend probiotics to patients receiving pelvic radiotherapy?

Is there a specific brand or formulation you prefer? The literature supporting the use of probiotics does not standardize the type or dose of probiotic, and commercially available products vary widely in terms of bacteria species, concentration (CFUs), etc. If you recommend probiotics to patients, what do you tell them to use?

I have not routinely recommended a probiotic to patients receiving abdominal or pelvic radiation but I did learn early on in my career to suggest it if they continued to have symptoms beyond the usual 2 weeks following radiation and found that it often helped a great deal.
